Getting Your Bearings

Diagnosed with type one diabetes at four and colon cancer  at twenty-nine, Sophie Abergil has spent most of her life being told how resilient she is.

She has some notes.
Not Ideal: Notes on Navigating Resilience · Coming 2026
The Route
Notes on Navigating Resilience
Coming 2026 · Paperback and Kindle

Not Ideal uses maps to explore resilience, taking you from the map you started with towards creating one of your own.

Drawing from her own deeply personal experience of chronic illness and cancer, Sophie uses humour, research, and sardonic lessons learned the hard way to take you through what happens when your route changes, landmarks disappear, and the destination stops making sense.

About Sophie.

Sophie Abergil is a Senior NHS Health and Wellbeing Coach working across four GP practices in London, a personal trainer, and the founder of Wellbeing First.

Her background is in nursing, paramedic science and coaching, and she is a former youth ambassador for a health-focused charity. Not Ideal is her book on resilience, written as a critique of the genre rather than another entry in it. She also designs websites, which is how this one happened.
