This website is run by Sophie Abergil (“I”, “me”). I am the data controller for personal information collected through sophieabergil.com, which means I decide what is collected and why, and I am responsible for looking after it.
This policy covers sophieabergil.com only. Wellbeing First Limited and any other organisations linked from this site are separate, with their own privacy policies, which apply when you use their websites or services.
Contact: sophie@sophieabergil.com
This policy explains what I collect when you use this site, why, who else sees it, how long I keep it, and what you can do about it.
I only collect what you give me through the site, plus basic technical information every website receives. Each use has a lawful basis under UK data protection law, shown below.
| What | When | Why I use it | Lawful basis | How long I keep it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Name, email, organisation and your message | You use the contact form or email me about speaking, coaching, the book or Wellbeing First | To reply and deal with your enquiry | Legitimate interests (answering people who contact me). If it leads to a booking, contract | 2 years after our last contact. Booking and invoice records for 6 years, as tax law requires |
| Email address and first name | You sign up for updates | To send the updates you asked for | Consent | Until you unsubscribe. I then keep your email on a do-not-contact list so you aren’t added again by mistake |
| Pages visited, how you found the site, device and browser type, approximate location (country or city) | You browse the site and accept analytics cookies | To see which parts of the site are useful | Consent | 2 months |
| IP address, browser and time of request | Every visit, automatically | Keeping the site secure and working | Legitimate interests | 30 days, set by my hosting provider |
Please don’t include health information in the contact form. If you want to talk about your health in a coaching context, we can do that properly once you’ve booked.
I don’t sell, rent or trade your personal information. There are no advertising networks on this site, and I don’t use your information for profiling or automated decisions about you.
If you contact me about one thing, I won’t add you to my mailing list unless you ask to be added.
I use a small number of service providers to run the site. They handle your information on my instructions. Google may also use analytics data to maintain and improve its own services, as described in its privacy policy.
| Provider | What they do | Their privacy policy |
|---|---|---|
| Krystal | Hosts the website and stores contact form entries | https://krystal.io/legal/privacy-policy |
| Mailchimp | Stores the mailing list and sends updates | https://www.intuit.com/privacy/statement/ |
| Google Analytics | Measures site visits | https://policies.google.com/privacy |
I may also share information with my accountant where it relates to a booking, or with anyone I am legally required to share it with, such as HMRC or a court.
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. This site uses as few as possible.
| Cookie | Type | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
| cookieyes-* | Necessary | Remembers whether you accepted or declined analytics cookies | 6 months |
| _ga, _ga_* | Analytics | Counts visits and shows how people use the site | 2 years |
Analytics cookies are only set if you agree to them. You can change your mind at any time using the cookie settings icon at the bottom left-hand-side of the page, or block and delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may stop parts of the site working.
Retention periods for each type of information are in the table under “What I collect and why”. When a period ends, I delete the information or make it anonymous so it can no longer identify you.
Some of my providers store data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where that happens, the transfer is covered by a UK adequacy decision (such as the UK-US data bridge) or by contract terms approved under UK law.
The site uses an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, and access to the site and mailing list is protected by strong passwords. No website can promise perfect security, but I take reasonable steps and keep the amount of information I hold small.
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
To use any of these rights, email me at sophie@sophieabergil.com. There is normally no charge, and I will reply within one month. You can unsubscribe from updates at any time using the link in every email.
This site is not aimed at children, and I don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you think a child has sent me their details, contact me and I’ll delete them.
The site links to other websites, such as booksellers and social media. Once you leave this site, their privacy policies apply, not this one.
If I change this policy, I’ll update the date at the top. If the change is significant and you’re on my mailing list, I’ll tell you by email.
If you have a question about this policy or how I’ve handled your information, email me at sophie@sophieabergil.com.
If you’re not happy with my response, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113. I’d appreciate the chance to sort it out first, but you don’t have to ask me before going to the ICO.
